We are well into the New Year now, and lots of exciting plans are afoot! Sakura are practising and preparing for a variety of performances, starting with the Spring Drizzler Hafla in Manchester in March. Cayte is just back from training in Australia, with lots of new ideas to play with do we're looking forward to having fun with all of that and to seeing you at an event soon (check out our 'Calendar' page to see where we'll be!)
Cayte is also looking forward to making her debut performance with the Caravan Project UK at this year's 10th anniversary Tribal Goddess weekend at Ford Castle in April! This event us sold out, but no doubt there will be photos!
And of course the WildHearts are dancing and laughing hard in class! Their next performance will be at Lowton Hafla in May, but no doubt you will see them around at various haflas before then!
See you somewhere soon!
Last weekend we headed on a roadtrip - through some foul weather - to Stafford. We spent the weekend triballing at Ingestre Hall - meeting up with friends, chilling, meditating, crafting, drumming and yes, doing a bit of dancing too!
October has been a pretty full month for Sakura! Cayte went over to Jewel of Yorkshire in Beadford (whilst Jan was sunning herself in Tuscany!) for some fab workshops with Dawn O'Brien, Chris Ogden and Tracey Gibbs. Then it was on with our Isis wings (black of course) to strut our Nightwish stuff at haflas in Leigh and Liverpool. The month ended on a Halloween high with suitable chilling (and raffle winning!) at the Spookilicious Hafla in Burscough. Good times!!!
November is looking good too! After a quiet start Cayte is off to do some JWAAD training. Then we're teaming up with our Sakura Alumnus, Sarah, for a pre -Christmas night out at Matthew Bourne's Sleeping Beauty. Squee!!! Then a few days later Sakura are off to a weekend of shenanigans at the Tribal Sleepover in Stafford. Yay!!
Please note that there are now no regular weekly Beginner Classes running here in Wigan. The only weekly classes are Development Classes, which are designed for students who have been coming regularly to my sessions for some time and have a good grasp of the Gypsy Caravan Beginners' Syllabus, or who have studied this consistently with another GC teacher. Attendance at this class is by approval/invitation ONLY.
Should you want some beginner tuition I am happy to travel to you to teach series of classes/workshops to small groups - please contact me for more details. Alternatively I plan to run a block of Beginner Classes in late Summer/early Autumn next year , so please keep an eye on the site for details of these and any upcoming workshops.
It's been a fun Summer for both Sakura and the WildHearts!!
Sakura performed at various haflas including the Nile to the Mersey in Liverpool, the Summer Sizxler in Manchester and in early Autumn at Lowton Hafla in Wigan.
Then last weekend the WildHearts 'flew solo' for the first time and rocked Lowton!!
Last weekend was a grand day out for Sakura! We were off to a Charity Masquerade Ball at the rather grand Haigh Hall here in Wigan .... one of our lovely friends and students (who also happens to be one of our first teachers too!) has recently had the all clear after several months of pretty gruelling breast cancer treatment, so it was all in a very worthy cause.
We were joined by Sakura Sarah and lots of other fab friends, and had a whale of a time dancing the night away and raising money for the Rosemere Cancer Foundation. We got to do a bit of tribal improve (Rock The Casbah!) and to dabke as well as hitting the floor to Iron Maiden and other rockers!
It was a great night - something a bit different in beautiful, luxurious surroundings - and a good excuse to dress up!
Photos all by the rather fabulous Mr Jan - aka Ian Craven! Thank you!
Lots has been going on in Sakura World over the past couple of months!
In May we were honoured to join the WildHearts for some Indian flavoured improv at Golborne Hafla. Armed with baskets, lights and some earthy tribal moves we all had a fabulous time!
Then in June a Wigan tribal contingent zilled their way through the city for Manchester Day. watched by crowds of around 175,000, we don't think we've ever had our photos taken so much!
A week later - last night in fact - it was great to hit the dance floor as Sakura again! Great fun, really feeling that tribal improv connection!
If you want to catch us over the next couple of months our 'Calendar' page has now been updated with upcoming performances for both Sakura and the WildHearts.
Back from our tribal travels in Glasgow (along with a brief foray across to Edinburgh!) we have lots to look forward to over the next couple of months!
We'll be performing some lovely Indian flavoured GC style with our WildHearts in Lowton in a fortnight and then, once Jan has recovered from her injury, will be rocking out some Sakura-style tribal at haflas in the North West. We are also very excited about taking part in the Manchester Day Parade this June - huge thank yous to Michelle Pender for letting us join in! And on a non-bellydance note we have a Masquerade Ball to look forward to at the end of June!
After a great time at the Nile to the Mersey hafla in Liverpool on Friday we are now having an Easter break!
Cayte's next Wigan classes will be on Monday April 13th. You can catch her before then at Kate's Bouncing Bunnies hafla, again in Liverpool, on Friday April 10th (sadly minus Jan on this occasion - but our Sakura Alumnus Sarah will be there instead, selling her Gingerbread Bunny crafty things!)
Come and join us in 2015 and rock out some tribal! Classes start again on Monday January 5th - check out the link on the 'Tuition' page for full details.
Happy New Year!
